Anathoth is the biblical home of Jeremiah, and is just 3 miles northeast of Jerusalem. It is one of the Levitical cities of the Tribe of Benjamin. It was a city of refuge.
Apparently it's original name was from the name Anata. Anat was a Canaanite goddess, as well as an Israelite by the same name.
In addition to Jeremiah, Abiezer, one of David's valiant men was from the city. Abiathar, the preist, was banished to Anathoth by Solomon.
