Amaziah ("strengthened by God") was the name of several individuals in the Hebrew Bible. Amaziah, a priest in the Kingdom of Israel was upset by many of the prophet Amos prophecies that the Kingdom of Israel would be destroyed if they did not repent, so asked the king to send Amos away.
Amos responded by saying that God had commanded him to leave his flocks in the Kingdom of Judah and preach. Amos prophecied that Amaziah would also be taken captive, and the prophecy was fulfilled.
